Furniture

During storage and transportation, furniture is exposed to various moisture-related risks. During sea freight, container rain can cause wooden furniture to deform or warp, metal components to corrode, and fabric upholstery to develop mildew. Damp environments may also accelerate plywood de-lamination, while cushioning materials can promote bacterial growth and unpleasant odours. Poor ventilation can further lead to rusting of metal fittings on wooden furniture. Even during short-distance transport, excess moisture may cause blistering on painted surfaces.

Common Moisture-Related Issues: Deformation and warping, corrosion of metal components, blistering of painted surfaces, and mould growth on leather and fabric upholstery.

Moisture Prevention Recommendations

  • Place calcium chloride desiccant inside the packaging to promptly absorb any excess moisture.

  • Monitor the temperature and humidity of the warehouse and maintain relative humidity within an appropriate range.

  • Container desiccants are used in shipping containers to effectively prevent container condensation.
